    KNIGHT’S ARMAMENT M-16 COMMANDO WITH 556QDC 5.56MM CAN WOW

This is a very scarce and desirable M16 Commando with the desirable short 10 1/2 inch “Commando” length barrel. This example has the transitional  upper receiver with the tear-drop forward assist, and the two position flip rear sight, combined with the M16 Commando lower.

It is fitted with a standard weight, 10 1/2 inch long chrome lined barrel with a M16A1 style birdcage flash hider. The front of the barrel is stamped “CMP C”, and although not marked, it is probably the older standard 1-12 twist rate. It has the late pattern lower receiver that is marked “M16 Commando” over the serial number”.

It also has the raised fence around the magazine release button, and the reinforced rear receiver ring. It is fitted with the very scarce, albeit short lived “three shot burst” fire control mechanism. Both side of the receiver are correctly marked with the ambidextrous marking of “SAFE/SEMI/BURST”.

It is fitted with the correct short, ribbed, round “commando” length black plastic handguard, black plastic standard pistol grip with the early style, two position sliding aluminum buttstock. Magazine absent.

The M16 Commando Transferable Machine Gun: A Modern Classic

The M16 Commando 5.56mm machine gun stands as a testament to modern military engineering, embodying the advancements in automatic weaponry that have shaped contemporary armed forces. Renowned for its reliability, accuracy, and adaptability, the M16 Commando has earned its place as a staple in both military and civilian firearms collections.

    Development and Adoption

The M16 Commando is an evolution of the original M16 Commando rifle, which was introduced during the Vietnam War. The original M16 Commando, designed by Eugene Stoner and manufactured by Colt, was revolutionary for its lightweight design and the use of the 5.56mm NATO cartridge. However, early models experienced various issues, leading to significant refinements over time.

The M-16 Commando emerged in the 1980s as a response to feedback from soldiers and advancements in firearms technology. This version incorporated numerous improvements to enhance durability, accuracy, and overall performance, making it better suited for the diverse needs of modern combat.

    Key Features and Enhancements

The M16 Commando features several notable enhancements over its predecessors. These include:

    – Enhanced Barrel and Rifling: The M16 Commando’s barrel was upgraded with a faster rifling twist (1:7) to stabilize the heavier 62-grain M855 NATO round, improving accuracy and range.
    – Adjustable Rear Sight: A new adjustable rear sight allowed for finer adjustments in windage and elevation, providing soldiers with improved aiming capabilities.

    – Three-Round Burst Mode: Replacing the fully automatic mode of the original M16 Commando introduced a three-round burst setting. This aimed to increase accuracy and conserve ammunition during sustained engagements.

    – Improved Ergonomics: The M16 Commando featured a redesigned handguard, buttstock, and pistol grip, enhancing the weapon’s handling and comfort for soldiers in various combat scenarios.

    – Reinforced Receiver and Heavier Barrel: These changes increased the weapon’s durability and reliability, addressing concerns from earlier models.

    Role in Modern Combat

The M16 Commando quickly became the standard issue rifle for the United States military and numerous allied forces. Its blend of accuracy, firepower, and reliability made it a versatile weapon capable of excelling in diverse combat environments, from close-quarters engagements to long-range firefights.

The introduction of the three-round burst mode was particularly significant, as it allowed soldiers to maintain better control during automatic fire, increasing hit probability and reducing ammunition wastage. The M16A2’s robust construction and user-friendly design further cemented its reputation as a dependable firearm.

    Transferable Machine Gun Status

In the civilian market, the term “transferable machine gun” refers to firearms that are legally transferable to private individuals under the National Firearms Act (NFA). These firearms are highly sought after by collectors and enthusiasts due to their historical significance and limited availability.

The M-16 Commando, being one of the iconic rifles of modern military history, holds a special place in the hearts of collectors. Its status as a transferable machine gun makes it a prized possession, often fetching high prices in the market due to its rarity and historical value.

    Legacy and Influence

The M16 Commando influence extends far beyond its service life. Its design principles and innovations have paved the way for subsequent developments in the M16 family and other modern assault rifles. The M4 carbine, for instance, directly traces its lineage to the M16A2, inheriting many of its features while incorporating further enhancements for modern warfare.

Today, the M-16 Commando is revered not only for its performance but also for its role in shaping modern infantry tactics and firearms design. Its legacy continues to be felt in the ongoing evolution of military and civilian firearms, reflecting the enduring impact of this modern classic.

In conclusion, the M16A2 5.56mm machine gun remains a symbol of military ingenuity and a benchmark in the history of automatic rifles. Its advancements and legacy continue to influence the field of firearms, making it a cherished piece of history for enthusiasts and a formidable weapon in the annals of modern warfare.
